SEVENTH NIGHT.

Tomorrow I won’t remember this so I’ve written it down:

It’s midnight and I’m still awake.

Sometimes I think of all the things I could get done if I never slept.

In a book I read it talked about the sleep patterns of the white-crowned sparrow. They can stay awake for really long periods of time during migration – flying during the night and seeking food during the day. Sometimes they don’t sleep for seven days in a row. The author explained that the US Defence Department is studying the behaviour of these birds to understand how it might be replicable in humans. They want to eradicate the need for sleep during combat. If I remember that right.

Imagine if sleep was our last form of resistance. A sort of modern day equivalent of being a conscientious objector.

We have a double sided electric blanket. He is always hot, I am always cold.
